After being away from the cage for the past two and a half years, Palmview’s Santiago Cobos (1-2-0) will be facing Corpus Christi’s Aaron Gomez (0-1-0) at the Jacob Brown Auditorium when JC Fight Promotions presents “HERO FC Best of the Best V.”The two MMA fighters will go at it in the 125 pound weight division. “I went out of town to work and then I switched coaches. It seemed like I had a lot of doors close on me,” said Santiago Cobos. “It has been a long time since I have been competing.”

Cobos was supposed to fight for JC Fight Promotions last June, but the week of the fight his opponent dropped off the card. A fight that he says he trained very hard for. Having the time away from fighting could be a negative scenario on one hand, but all in all Cobos thinks it has been very positive. “I know that I have matured,” said Cobos. “With all the time that I have been out, I have learned a lot.”

Ricardo Palacios is now coaching the 23 year old fighter. If you are familiar with Palacios as a boxer then you can pretty much guess that Cobos has some pretty good stand up skills, but he is determined on becoming a well- rounded fighter. “I have really been working on my wrestling,” said Cobos. “I never really worked on my ground game and that is what has caused my two losses.”

When Cobos steps inside the cage with Gomez, he believes he will have to work for the win.  Gomez has had his first professional fight this past September, but before that he had 10 amateur fights. “I know he has more experience than I do,” said Cobos. “It will be a challenge for me because I have been out a while, so I am getting ready.”

Just because Cobos hasn’t fought in quite some time, it doesn’t mean that it will be an easy fight for Gomez. Cobos is taking this fight very serious. “I am not going to let him run through me,” said Cobos. “I have been training my butt off and I know it will be a tough fight.”

On Saturday June 6th, Santiago Cobos will fight Aaron Gomez at the Jacob Brown Auditorium located at 600 International Blvd. in Brownsville, Tx. 78520. Tickets are $27 presale and can be purchased at the door for $30.VIP seating is $75. For ticket information call 210-912-0041
