On June 6th in Brownsville, Texas, 21 year old Eli Urbina had his first fight with HERO FC when he took on Travis Cox in the Middleweight Division. The fight ended in the 1st round at the 22 second mark when the referee stopped the fight due to strikes. I had a chance to talk to Urbina about his win.

Q: This fight ended in 22 seconds I was expecting the fight to go much longer were you?

A: I know Travis and I saw his last fight, he is a competitor and an awesome fighter. I was a little nervous going in there, but I trained for it and I took an opportunity when I saw it. It was awesome.

Q: What was that you caught him with?

A: I’m a southpaw but I like to switch orthodox. This whole camp I did. In the fight I threw a left hook and a straight right. The left hook finished him. I was surprised too. I was waiting for the right hand to come along and it was finished by a TKO.

Q: The referee stopped the fight but it looked like he still had some fight in him, is that what you thought?

A: It did seem like he wanted to fight some more. He was holding on to my leg and I would have just taken his back but I guess the referee did his job.

Q: How does it feel to get this win?

A: I feel great

Q: Where does this tell you where you are at in your career?

A: I have been training at American Top Team for a while now and I know I can fight. This helps prove it.

Q: After this, where do you go from here?

A: I love HERO FC and JC Promotions. You guys are awesome. Whoever you guys throw at us we will take them on. We are excited to fight, we love fighting.
