A year ago when Eric Molina (20-2, 14 KO’s) was knocked out by Chris Arreola in the 1st round of their fight in Corpus Christi, many thought that it could be over for the Teacher from Edinburg. Saturday Night he proved everyone wrong when he defeated Tony Grano (20-3-1, 16 KO’s) for the NABF Heavyweight Title in Ontario, California. “It’s amazing I can’t even describe it,” said Eric Molina. “They didn’t even have a belt ready for me because they didn’t think I could beat him.”

After 12 rounds of boxing Molina was awarded the fight by unanimous decision over Grano. The judges scored the fight 116-110, 116-110 and 114-112. Molina admits that he probably lost the first three rounds but it all changed after that. “In the 4th round I put him down with a right hand,” said Molina. “After that I took control of the fight.” Both fighters went at each other for all 12 rounds and when it was over Grano’s face told the story that he was in a fight. “He was all banged up,” said Molina. “He took it all, he’s a tough guy.”

Grano and Molina are known as big punchers and they both proved it to each other in this fight.  In the 12th round Molina found out firsthand how strong Grano is. “I slipped up and got caught with a big right hand,” said Molina. “I went down hard but he couldn’t finish me off.”

Now with having a win over Grano and being crowned the new NABF Heavyweight Champion he will also move up in the rankings. “We sat down with Don King, Dana and the President of the NABF they said I need to prepare for a big fight,” said Molina. “We have full control of who we pick.”

Molina went into this fight confident.  He trained hard, came up with a solid game plan and stuck to it. It was important for Molina to win this fight for his fans that have supported him for so many years. “It’s a dream come true to be back in the mix,” said Molina. “To come out here and beat the number five guy who handpicked me, they never expected me to win.”
